Reaching out . . . Adoption/ Run for the Little Flowers Fundraiser

I should be working on adoption paperwork.  I really should.  It feels like it is going painfully slow.  And, partially, I think I want it to. Because I know once this part is over, I think the process will truly feel like it will be over in a blink of an eye.  When I tell people that, at this time next year, we will probably have our new little one home, I catch myself for a moment. A year.  A year seems so long.  But so short, when there are forms to fill out, money to raise, school to teach, boys to love on and spend special time with before a new little one is added.  I want to slow down time and enjoy every moment, even at this time when my heart cannot wait to be matched with our new one, to travel to China, and hold him in our arms for the first time.

Yet this post is not about heart longings or time.  It is about the practical.  While trying to raise money for our own adoption, I find myself still called to the Run for the Little Flowers to raise money for the Little Flower Projects.  This is not about me, after all.  It is about God and what HE wants to do.  I just need to be faithful and trust.

And ask for help.

So, this post comes down to asking you all for help.  For the Run for the Little Flowers and for our adoption.

Since all donations for the run go directly to Little Flower Projects and tax codes are messy and such a pain when all you want to do is something good,  I have told Little Flower Projects that I will try to cover the costs of the medals ordered and the shipping of all the shirts to all registrants.  Luckily, the company that is making the shirts will take Paypal payments and Little Flower Projects can pay them directly out of the money collected from the run.

But the medals and the shipping is no small amount, especially if there are, and I hope there are, lots of people who decide to run the race.

So, I am doing a fundraiser for the Run for the Little Flowers AND our adoption fund.

I am taking orders for any item from 147 Million Orphans pages here.  Please take a look at all the items.  There are some really GREAT items that will make great gifts as well.  147 Million Orphans does amazing work around the world and was a sponsor for last year's run.

This year I signed up to do bulk ordering for fundraising purposes with them.  If you are interested in helping, go check out the items available to order hereIf you want to order, click on the "donate" button on my side bar, and donate the amount of the items you want to order and a little extra for shipping.   DO NOT ORDER directly on the 147 Million Orphan website, or I will not get the proceeds!  I am registered with them as a "bulk order fundraiser" which means that I place the order for the items to fundraise. Make sure you give me your name, address, and items ordering in the "add special instructions" section when directed to paypal.

Depending on the number of orders I receive, I will either order on the 15th and 30th of every month or just the 30th of every month.  I will email to confirm your donation and order and let you know when to expect the items.

50% of the proceeds will go to the Run for the Little Flowers to defray costs and 50% of the proceeds will go to our adoption fund.

Of course, you may donate, without a purchase as well.  And if you want the money to go specifically to the run or our adoption fund, just put that in the "special instructions" section as well.

Thank you all so much for your support!!

Last year, when I decided that I just needed to do SOMETHING to help the orphans in China, I had no idea what would come of the Run for the Little Flowers and that, a year later, I would be posting about the Second Annual Run for the Little Flowers (and be in the process of adopting our own "little flower").  But, here we are and I am so happy to do this again!

The Second Annual Run for the Little Flowers Virtual 5K

This fundraiser is to benefit Little Flower Projects, a US registered non-profit that was started by Brent and Serena Johnson.  To read more about their work, please read this great article about Brent.  I was honored to speak to Brent on the phone last year and I am even more convinced of the amazing work they do.  And, like them on Facebook too, you will fall in love with the children in their care!

Little Flower Projects works with oprhans with special medical needs in China.  They have set up homes that give the care these orphans need, while giving them even something more precious, love.  Little Flower Projects is named for their patron, St. Therese of Lisieux.
One of last year's "runners", a little girl adopted from China.  SHE is what this run is all about!

Details:

When: Saturday, October 19, 2013.  While this is the scheduled date for the run, you can do the run any day that works for you!

Where: Where ever you are!  This is a virtual run, so you complete it right where you are.  I am planning a meet up in the DC area, so watch for details on that!

What: 5K- Walk run or crawl 3 miles.  If you cannot do 3 miles, do what you can to join us in solidarity for these precious orphans.

How much: The registration fee is $25.  Each registrant gets a t-shirt (women's cut, unisex and youth sizes available, see size chart here for sizing information), and, if they want, a medal.  MEDALS ARE SOLD OUT.

The bottom shows you the quote on the back of the shirt.

This year registration is a little different.  All money goes directly to Little Flower Projects (will show up on PayPal as China Little Flower).  You will get a receipt from Little Flower Projects, for tax purposes, once the run is over.  The approximate donation, minus expenses, will be $17.

You can register up to 4 people at once.  If you need to register more than that, please fill out the form more than once.

You MUST check the medal box if you want a medal.  The first 100 to request a medal, will receive one.  I am really trying to cut down costs, so the medal is optional.  There is a "No Shirt" option if you do not want a shirt and just want a medal, or neither.

You must be registered by September 25th to be guaranteed a t-shirt.  There will be limited quantities available after that date.

I have launched a fundraiser in conjunction with 147 Million Orphans to help offset some of the costs I will incur from the run.  Please read this post for information!

So grab your friends, get a group together, and start training!! Oh, and spread the word!! I am a small time blogger and need all the help I can get making this run a success!

Seven Quick Takes

Thanks, Jen, for hosting!

1. This should be my first post at WORDPRESS . . .
But, I do not do well with change . . .

I will get there soon!

2. Roman Holiday???

So, I asked this on Facebook and people were overwhelmingly positive. But, I am going to pose this question to the two people who read here . . .

My hubby is going to Rome in September for a week for work.  Unlike last year, this trip is much more relaxed.  Which, means it would be a good trip for me to go on.  I would even be able to go on a pilgrimage with him (which is part of his trip) that includes seeing St. Peter's Tomb and mass with some guy celebrating named POPE FRANCIS!!!  I have never been to Rome (I have never left the Western Hemisphere) and would love to go.  But, I have a hard time justifying the cost of the plane ticket while paying $30,000 for the adoption, about $2,500 for my oldest to get tested by an educational psychologist AND having to find my hubby a car for him to drive to work.  We are Dave Ramsey followers and REFUSE to finance ANY of our expenses, so we are working our tails off to make it all happen.  Could we afford the plane ticket to Rome (which would be the only real expense for me to go)? Yes.

I would totally say no to Rome, except for one, somewhat major thing . . . once the adoption is complete, it will probably several years before we will be in a position to even leave our adopted child overnight.  So, ANY trip, just me and my hubby, is highly unlikely in the near future.
Maybe the time is now??  What do you think??

3. My Ticket to "The Show"
I am an Antiques Roadshow junkie.  I hardly get to see it,  but if the TV is on and it is on TV, I will watch it. I love when they have people on who paid $.25 at a yard sale for something that is an antique treasure!  I secretly want to be on the show and I think I finally have my "ticket" . . .

We are still collecting items for our second yard sale adoption fundraiser coming up.  I picked up a van load full from one particular family.  When I got home I pulled this clock out of a box.
It has a maker's mark on the back with a date from the year 1916!!  The first thing I asked my husband is, "Would it be wrong to keep it for a while so I can get on Antiques Roadshow before we sell it?"

Seriously overwhelmed by the generosity of others!

4. So proud of this guy

Last week we could not even get him to put his head in the water or swim AT ALL.  And this week, he was swimming across the pool and participated in the mini swim meet yesterday!!  I am so proud of him!!

5. Adoption Update

We are about 90% done with all of our home study paperwork.  I feel like things are moving slowly, but we are plugging away at it.  We are trying not to let the paperwork consume us, but we are trying to get it all done in a timely manner.  We are also working on fundraising and are gearing up for yard sale #2 and fundraisers that will be shared here.  Pray for us!

6. Run for the Little Flowers Fundraiser!

Registration is coming soon!! Watch for it.  It will be a two step process, but hopefully not too cumbersome for y'all!!

7. Some Little Flower Cuteness

Have a great weekend everyone!

I'm Moving!

I am not "moved in" yet, but my blog is getting all set up at wordpress.  Check it out here.  Once it is officially up, I will link to it again and this space will get really quite.

Oh, and if anyone knows how to set up a registration page one wordpress, leave a comment.  I am working hard to get registration up and running for the Run for the Little Flowers!
