This means war

It seems our house has been hit by the plague . . . of crickets.  They are everywhere. In the kitchen. In the bathroom.  And they LOVE our laundry room.  One can see about 5 of these bugs in the laundry room each time it is entered.

And they especially love trying to keep me up at night by "singing" all night long.  I am tired of it.  And I am just plain tired because they keep me up!

So we have proclaimed war on these little insects.  No St. Francis mentality here.  I want them deadReally dead. Just to make sure they cannot keep me up anymore.  And although they can be elusive, we have won many battles.  Shoes have been thrown. Some miss. Some hit the target dead on.

Our family: 4

Cricket: 0

Let's just hope we win the war!

I am not afraid . . .

How many times are we told not to fear in scripture? Many.  We are not to be afraid. And, I just love this new ring from Sporty Girl Jewelry

The outside says . . .
I am not afraid

The inside says . . .
I was born to do this

This quote is taken from something St. Joan of Arc said.  Now, while the quote is meant to inspire runners and triathletes, etc to run far and work hard, it has hit me in all aspects of my life right now.

In all things, God tells us to Fear Not.

Should I fear or worry about tomorrow?
Should I fear about how this fundraiser will turn out?
Should I fear homeschooling my children and if I am doing a good job?

No, because I was born for this.  I was born for this moment at this time to live my life as God is calling me to live it.  I was born to do His Will and as long as I dedicate all I do to His glory, I have nothing to fear.

St Joan of Arc is such an inspiration.  She faced armies and knew there was nothing to fear.  So when I face a table of boys waiting to be taught, I have nothing to fear either.

St Joan of Arc marched ahead knowing she was meant to cross the miles without fear of what was ahead. So when I march ahead in a run, pushing myself, there is no way I should fear!

I am not afraid
I was born for this

Soundtrack for your life

Have you ever wondered what would be on the soundtrack from the movie that is made about your life?  I have.  Well, not really.  But, I have wondered what songs I would put on the CD called "The Soundtrack of My Life"

Well, here is my list from my life this far . . .

1. I Want to Hold Your Hand by The Beatles.

My aunt and parents are huge Beatles fans.  And I remember growing up hearing all of their songs.  My cousins and my brother and I would spend lots of time together at my grandparent's house and my two cousins and I would make up "musicals" to perform to the family (my brother was too cool for this).  These "musicals" usually included at least one Beatles song.  Those days are forever in my memory and some of the happiest of my childhood.

2.  Let 'Em In by Paul McCartney and Wings. I know what you all must be thinking, but I LOVED The Paul McCartney and Wings Greatest Hits 8 Track Tape.  For those of you who have no idea what I am talking about, it is one of these . . .

I would spend hours listening to that 8 track and roller skate around our kitchen table.  Now, as a parent, I cannot believe my parents let me roller skate around the kitchen table!!  But they did. And on rainy days, it was my favorite thing to do.

3. I am conflicted on this one.  But, my high school years would have to represented by a U2 song from their album Achtung Baby or by any Duran Duran song.  If I went with U2, I would choose Mysterious Ways,  just because I currently have it on my ipod.  If I went with a Duran Duran song, I would choose The Reflex. Go watch the video . . . look at the hair and clothes!  Oh, man to think I used to think Simon Lebon was cute!

4. Hold Me Jesus by Rich Mullins. This song was instrumental in my conversion.  I still cannot listen to it without tearing up.

5. Breathe by Hillsong and Michael W. Smith.  This is the first worship song I fell in love with and it it still one of my favorites.  When I heard it, I knew I wanted it sung at my wedding.  Luckily, about 6 years later, my husband did not mind its choice!

6. Good Morning Life by Dean Martin.  I first heard this song in the movie Return to Me and after my oldest was born, for some reason, I would sing this song to him each morning when he woke up for years.

7. These are Days by 10,000 Maniacs- Each day I have with my kids and my husband, I feel as these lyrics descibe.  I know that sounds cheesy, but it is true.  It also helps me to remember to rejoice in the little moments of the day.  Those are the things I will remember the most.
These are the days
These are days you’ll remember
Never before and never since, I promise
Will the whole world be warm as this
And as you feel it,
You’ll know it’s true
That you are blessed and lucky
It’s true that you
Are touched by something
That will grow and bloom in you

These are days that you’ll remember
When May is rushing over you
With desire to be part of the miracles
You see in every hour
You’ll know it’s true
That you are blessed and lucky
It’s true that you are touched
By something that will grow and bloom in you

These are days
These are the days you might fill
With laughter until you break
These days you might feel
A shaft of light
Make its way across your face
And when you do
Then you’ll know how it was meant to be
See the signs and know their meaning
It's true
Then you’ll know how it was meant to be
Hear the signs and know they’re speaking
To you, to you
8. Life is Beautiful by The Afters.  I have shared this one a bunch of times here.  But, I love this song and its message and I love the memories I have of my whole family signing it at the top of their lungs while driving down the road.
That's it!
Why no more than eight songs?  Because, God willing, I have alot more life that needs its own songs!
So, if your life had a soundtrack, what songs would be on it?

7 Quick Takes

Thanks for hosting Jen!

1. Run for the Little Flowers Virtual 5K fundraiser
This is just one of the little orphans you will be helping by registering for this race!  Read more here and then sign up!

2.  Wipeout in my living room
Ever seen the show Wipeout

Well, my boys LOVE it!  And, earlier this week, when I came into the living room, I noticed all the cushions, from every piece of furniture that has removable cushions, on the living room floor.  The boys were belly-flopping onto the pillows and laughing wildly.  My 4 yr old looks and me and exclaims, "Mommy, we are playing Wipeout!" Oh, yes, life with boys!

3. Did I mention that I am hosting a fundraiser to help orphans in China????
This is another cutie who will benefit from your generosity!

4. Persuasion or Persuasion?

I love Jane Austin novels and movies.  I can read the books over and over again and watch the movies again and again.  But, I am stuck right now.  Which Persuasion do I like better?

The older one with Amanda Root that is more true to the book or . . .
Or the newer one with the more handsome Captain Wentworth and the score that tugs on your heartstrings just a bit more.

Both good, both have a strange scene at the end that make you wonder what they were thinking when they wrote that into the script, but . . .

I am just not sure which I like better . . .

Which one do you all like better?

5. More cuties you will be helping by signing up for the virtual 5K

6. What happened to my son?

Well, it seems that what I wrote in this post is true.  He has not changed back to his old ways yet.  He is currently reading Lord of the Rings!  It is on the 8th grade reading list and he is actually reading it.  Now, his desire is spurred by the fact that a friend of his read it and by the fact that he really wants to see the movie, but I do not care.  The fact that my boy, who really did not want to pick up a book before, is challenging himself with a book 4 grade levels above his own is just fine by me! No matter the motivation!

7. And just one more shameless tug on your heartstrings to get you to donate to the Run for the Little Flowers Virtual 5K . . .

Have a great weekend everyone!

Run for the Little Flowers Virtual 5K

**** UPDATE***

As of 10/21/2012:

The run is now over.  Thank you to all who participated!!  I will be updating this post soon with details about this year's run and information about the 2nd Annual Run for the Little Flowers Virtual 5K!

Please go to Little Flower Project's website to support the amazing work they do!

Run for the Little Flowers Virtual 5K

This virtual 5K is to benefit an amazing organization called The Little Flower Projects. Over the upcoming weeks I will share more information about this non-profit organization and who they serve, but for now I will tell you that The Little Flower Projects was started by a husband and wife, graduates of Franciscan University of Steubenville (my alma mater too!!). Little Flower Projects takes care of orphans in China who need extra care and medical attention. I highly recommend that you "Like" their Facebook page, where they post pictures of the little ones they serve and give updates on them.

Since The Little Flower Projects is a non-profit and I have a huge heart for orphans, I have decided to start this virtual 5K to raise the funds necessary to cover the salary of one Nanny for 6 months, which is approximately $2,000.

But, truthfully, I want to surpass that. And not just surpass that, but "blow it out of the water."

And I will need your help to do that. First, through registering for this event! Second, pray for Little Flower Projects and this fundraiser. And, third, spread the word. Blog about it. Post it to Facebook. Tweet about it. Send emails to friends. Do whatever it takes to help these orphaned children get the care and medical attention they need so that they may someday find a forever family.

The Details:

The Virtual run date is October 20, 2012. (DC area friends: look for more info on a meet up for that day). And although, that day would be the perfect day to run the 5K, I am just asking that you run it anytime between October 13-October 21th).

This is a fun run. So you can run it at an Olympic pace or walk it! Just get out there and traverse 3.1 miles! (But if you just want to donate to the cause and not walk or run, that is ok too!) I just ask that you say a special for the orphans and Little Flower Projects on that day.

The registration "fee" is $25. If you would like to donate more, or cannot donate that much, great! Just email me at katiepetko [at] yahoo [dot] com and I will tell you how you can do that!

100% of the profits go to Little Flowers Project (Approximately $17 of each entry fee). Donations are tax deductible. But to ensure that you can deduct it, it is best to pay by check. Email me for details.

All registered runners will receive a t-shirt and a medal (first 150 registrants will receive a medal). Watch for the designs to come!! If you do not want a t-shirt and medal and would prefer that all of the money go to Little Flower Projects, there is an option for that when registering. All t-shirts and medals will be mailed 1 week before the run.

The medal is option B

Shirt has Little Flower Projects' Mission Statement on the back

All registered runners will be entered in a giveaway!! See this post for the giveaway items, ways to get extra entries and to check out our amazing sponsors!

All runner's will be emailled a bib for the event as well!

What is left??

If you have not yet, "Like" The Run for the Little Flowers Virtual Run Facebook page! A great way to meet others running it and to get up to date information on the fundraiser.
